Highland Spring helps to build futures in Tanzania

Highland Spring employees recently undertook a life-changing trip to Moshi, Tanzania, to build homes for vulnerable families in the region through their partnership with The Vine Trust charity.

Following 12 months of fundraising, the team raised £42,000 to send 18 employees from the business to Africa for two weeks of home building.

During their time in Tanzania, the Highland Spring team dug tirelessly, cleared ground, carried raw materials, built foundations, laid bricks and spent time with the local community in Moshi.

The houses they helped build will support four orphaned children in great need and help secure a better future for them. The employees also visited other projects in the area to experience the positive impact the charity is having on the ground in Tanzania.

The Vine Trust is an international development charity which enables volunteers to provide medical, home-building and care support to communities living in severe poverty in Tanzania and Peru.

Les Montgomery, Chief Executive of Highland Spring said: “We feel extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to take part in such an inspiring trip to Tanzania. It has been incredible to see how bare land can be transformed into a house in a matter of weeks for orphaned children in such great need. Every employee who attended the trip, including myself, has been inspired by the people of Moshi and would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the last 12 months to enable this trip to happen. We look forward to exploring other ways we can support The Vine Trust and their fantastic work in the future.”

Louise Campbell, Expeditions Programme Manager at The Vine Trust, said: “The work the Highland Spring expedition team has done over the last couple of weeks, and in the year of fundraising leading up to their expedition, has been incredible. Their support will have a sustainable impact in empowering the children and vulnerable families they built new homes for in Moshi. We would like to extend our gratitude for the team’s involvement in the home building programme in 2018 and for their help in raising the profile of The Vine Trust within their organisation and further afield.”
